Early Works of James Macpherson, poet
His earliest work to be published was an epoch poem The Highlander (1758). Two years later, after a tour of the Highlands and Hebrides with his colleague, Lachlan Macpherson, he published Fragments of Ancient Poetry Collected in the Highlands of Scotland which was followed by the epics Fingal (1762) and Temora (1763) which he claimed to be translations of the work of the 3rd century bard, Ossian.
