DONALD MACPHERSON OF GASKMORE

      Picture of sword of honour presented to Colonel Donald Macpherson of Gaskmore by the Cluny Volunteers raised and commanded by him in 1798. Also shown are his uniform epaulettes and braid.

      Later he emigrated to Upper Canada and founded prominent families at Napanee and Kingston. During the War of 1812 with the United States (1812-14 ) he commanded the 10th Royal Veterans in the defence of Kingston.

      The Kingston branch was closely related to and involved in the public life of Sir John A. Macdonald, first prime minister of the Canadian Confederation.
