China Vessels Bearing Mixed Heraldic Arms

The Arms displayed on these two items are representations of the Arms of Macpherson of Cluny. The "witch's cauldron" depicts the Arms of the 20th Chief, Ewen Macpherson of Cluny, commemorating his marriage in 1832 to Sarah Justina Davidson, by "impaling" the Macpherson Arms with those of Davidson. The Arms on the vase are typical of the period and, while not entirely accurate, purports to represent the Arms of Macpherson of Cluny.

The model of a witch's cauldron was produced by the company named after its founder W.H. Goss. The miniature china vase was produced by Willow Art of Longton. Both companies were located in the Stoke on Trent, England and such items were produced from the mid-1800's to the early 1900's as holiday souvenirs. They may well have been sold through an agent in Kingussie: J. Johnstone, High Street, Kingussie (now Pam's Coffee Shop).
