Sometime clerk to the Perth Carriers. He was born in the district of Badenoch where his father was a shepherd. He moved to Perth where he was employed as a clerk. Originally dressed in Highland garb, he changed to wearing a coat of dark green, light vest, darkish trousers and high-heeled boots. A well-known character, small in stature and with excessive self-conceit, making him the subject of much derision. He considered himself something of a dandy and attractive to the opposite sex.
