This portrait of Sir John Macpherson was copied with the kind permission of Allan Macpherson-Fletcher from the original that hangs in Balavil House by Kingussie. It is almost identical to the studio copy of Sir John's portrait in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery which was done from the original 1779 painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
There are two or three other portraits of Sir John and a mezzotint engraving. In the year 1779, Sir John was 34 years old which corresponds with his appearance in this portrait.
