
This sword is aid to have been found on the battlefield at Culloden. One would have to say that it is in remarkably good condition if it lay buried on the moor for over two centuries. However, many of the swords of the Highlanders -- slain or captured in that battle --- were taken back to England and the Lowlands as trophies and it is certainly possible for this to be one of these.
In any event, the exceptional quality of this sword suggests that it belonged to someone of means. It is interesting to note that it does not have a blade mark. The sword was donated by the late William A. Macpherson of Mitcham, Surrey."
