Captain George Gordon Macpherson served in the Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards. It is the oldest regular regiment of the British Army on continuous active service since it was formed at Coldstream on the Scottish Border by Gen Monck in 1650. It is noted by the bear skin hats of its dress uniform as shown in the 1914 recruiting poster.
