Born at Forres, she was the daughter of a Free Church minister, the Rev. John Cameron, and her mother was the popular novelist Isabel Cameron. Educated at Aberdeen University she married fellow graduate and author Ian Macpherson in 1930. Their most important writings took place whilst residing at Halfway House, Laggan in Badenoch between 1930-1936.
