PIPE MAJOR IAIN MACPHERSON, MM


 

 

 

Pipe Major Iain Macpherson was born in Glasgow in 1920 and was a well respected bagpipe performer, composer, teacher and judge. He and his younger brother, Donald (see picture below), were taught by their father, also named Iain, as boys to play the bagpipes.

During World War II, Iain served with the Highland Light Infantry and was awarded the Military Medal. He later served in the Parachute Regiment. He judged piping throughout the UK and Sweden before moving to the USA in 1985 where he performed at Clan Macpherson Association events. Iain died in 1995.
