Pipe Major Iain Macpherson was born in Glasgow in
1920 and was a well respected bagpipe performer,
composer, teacher and judge. He and his younger
brother, Donald (see picture below), were taught by
their father, also named Iain, as boys to play the bagpipes.
During World War II, Iain served with the Highland
Light Infantry and was awarded the Military Medal. He
later served in the Parachute Regiment. He judged
piping throughout the UK and Sweden before moving to
the USA in 1985 where he performed at Clan Macpherson
Association events. Iain died in 1995.
