The Highland wildcat that figures prominently on this brooch is derived from an earlier clansman's crest badge for the Clan Macpherson. That the Blairgowrie and Rattray District Pipe Band wear this crest as well as the Ancient Macpherson Red tartan should be no surprise -- the Baron of Blairgowrie is none other than Sir William Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie, our current Chief.
