Cluny's Visit to McPherson Square in Washington, DC

McPherson Square is located in downtown Washington, D.C.. It is bounded by K Street Northwest to the north, Vermont Avenue NW on the East, Eye Street NW on the south, and 15th Street NW on the West; it is one block northeast of Lafayette Park. It is served by the McPherson Square station of the Washington Metro.

The Society of the Army of the Tennessee presented an equestrian statue of McPherson, which was erected at McPherson Square and dedicated on October 18, 1876. The sculpture represents was made by Louis Rebisso out of a captured cannon and rests on a granite pedestal. It depicts McPherson surveying a battlefield not unlike the sceene that led to his death in 1864.

Owing to its proximity to the White House, the square is the site of political rallies and falls on the path of various protest marches. CMA members have frequently protested the mispronunciation of Birdseye's name by Metrorail personel who insist on referring to the place as 'Mak-Fearson Square' for we insist there is "no fear in Macphurson".
