The winners of the Camanachd Cup for 1896 -- the National Shinty Trophy -- were the Kingussie Shinty Club. This was the first championship game played. Since then the Kingussie team has the most Camanachd Cup victories except for Newtonmore. But that gap is being closed.

      Provost Alexander Macpherson, the Club President is shown sitting in the front row immediately to the left of the cup. He is the author of the Glimpses of Church and Social Life in the Highlands in Olden Times.

      Two of the players shown are Macphersons both with the first initial A (for Alex).
