Meet Ian Scott Smith

Ian Scott Smith was born at St. Kilda, Australia in 1903. He was a strong, fast rugby wing-threequarter who played for Scotland on 32 occasions, scored 23 times and was captain during the 1933 season. As an Oxford University Blue, he also represented Great Britain during the tour of South Africa in 1924. He played most of his best rugby games in partnership with G.P.S. Macpherson and was a member of the famous 1925 team that won the Grand Slam for he first time.

He was a Chartered Accountant (Edinburgh) by Profession. He descended from John Macpherson (1798-1875) from the Isle of Skye who emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1825.

His widow, Mrs Ian Scott Smith presented these rugby caps to the Clan Macpherson Museum in 1973.
