The Story of Na Dìonadairean Clann Mhuirich

The genesis of Na Dìonadairean Clann Mhuirich came about in the late 1980s as a direct result of the failure of the Museum building structure. The cost of repairing the building exhausted the available Association funds and required mortgaging of the building and its contents. Recognizing the serious nature of this situation the US Branch undertook a fund raising project that would retire the mortgage and provide an endowment to guard against future threats to the integrity of the Museum. Thus the Gaelic name for the Guardians of Clan Macpherson.

The philosophy underlying Na Dìonadairean Clann Mhuirich is that an association as wealthy and talented as the members of CMA should never again allow itself to be in such a dire situation. Appointment as a Dìonadair requires the donation of at least $1000 or the equivalent amount in £ Sterling or other currencies. In recognition of their generosity, Dìonadairean are awarded a certificate designed by R.G.M. Macpherson, the Niagara Herald Extraordinary, and signed by Cluny and the Chairman of CMA. In addition they are awarded a handsome badge also designed by R.G.M., a reproduction of which is shown at the right. Of course, their names on the plaque are further recognition.

It is understood that the lump sum amount of the donation required for membership is high and a deterrent for some. In recognition of this, provisions have been made for defraying this total amount in as many as ten instalments.

Application for membership should be sent to the CMA Treasurer, Mrs Annie LeRoy-Lewis, The Old Manse of Strathbraan, Trochry, Perthshire PH8 0DY, UK. or email: annie@theoldmanse.org.uk.

However, applicants living in the USA should send their applications to the Treasurer of the US Branch, Judi Parsons, Post Office Box 7138, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22901, or email: judi@parsonage.net
