Shield 42

Arms of John Douglas Gillespie,
USA

These Arms show very clearly the similarity of the Gillespie Arms to the Macpherson Arms, which is to be expected in view of the close Clan relationship. The gold Gillespie Galley has three masts to the single masted Macpherson ship. The "chief" is "Argent" and the red hand and dagger and the red cross-crosslet are placed in reverse position to that of the Macpherson Arms. In the centre is a "trefoil" to indicate descent from the family of Duval. The bordure "embattled" is a sign of "cadency".

Crest: A wildcat holding a "Caducceus" commemorates the armiger's service in the Hospital Corps of the US Navy during the Korean War.
